Foodie Adventures
20160601
"Good food, better company."

It is the one-week-Gawai break and I am not home, surprisingly! You bet I do have homesick at the moment. I cry everytime I get off the phone with my parents, and definitely not ashamed of it. I knew it was going to be a long-ass and boring week despite the pile of assignments I should be doing. So then, I thought of what I should do while I have the time. Coming from a family of foodies, of course trying out authentic local restaurants is something I ought to do at some point during my four-year (now down to three) stay. With the thought of the unused money that I was suppose to buy flight tickets back/from home, I came up with the idea to use the exact same amount of money to go on this little adventure. Of course, I had to ask permission from my parents and obviously they let me, understanding that I have not been out of the nest since I got here after mid-semester break. It didn't took that much to convince them, all I had to do was type down a 'resume' regarding the places I plan to go and the price range(s), then voila.

This little adventure of mine takes two days to settle with. I planned on going to four today- Silo Square, Trenos Coffee, Parking Ijo and COCOPURI, and another three tomorrow- MK Classico, Hourglass Cafe and Swee Kang.

Well, plans changed but it wasn't bad at all. Hans, Dale and I had to pick up Hakeem from his house first and only then, we scavenge for food. As planned, we did go to Silo Square first. The price range was reasonable- they cost around RM10 and above for most of what they serve, and the proportion was bigger than average. They are famous for their fondue, however that was not what we picked since we fear we couldn't finish it. It was huge, bizarre,! The variety of fruits served with it was beyond vast. They had a whole board filled with only the list of the fruits they serve (it was over a metre tall). For RM50, I would say it's cheap! And what is cool is that it is both a decor gallery and a cafe. Call it 'hipster' if you like, but it is definitely pretty authentic. The stuff they have there, I want it all for my room. Even the prices of the decoration aren't bad at all. The price is definitely for what its worth.

This tall glass of sweetness was my pick. It goes by the name The Bold, evident in the colour. Whipped cream with sprinkles on top, followed by a solid ball of vanilla ice cream, then a layer of sliced bananas, forgot the count of how many grapes, cake but I can't recall what flavour it was, and chocolate wafers with bits and pieces of almond cookies. Costs RM15, and could definitely beat a grande Starbucks drink, volume-wise.

Then we headed on to McDonalds' WHICH IS BESIDE TRENOS ACTUALLY, LITERALLY. We thought it was closed since it is Gawai Day today. It turns out it opens at three. The price was typical(?)- Above RM10, below RM20. Biasa ah tuuuuu, tipikal kedai makan Shah Alam. We shared a plate of Nachos (since we already had McDonalds', a set for each of us), I bought a cafe latte and Hans and Hakeem shared an ice blended green tea latte.

Before we sent off Hakeem back to his house, our final foodie go-to place was COCOPURI. I almost forgot- Parking Ijo was closed, not because it's Gawai, but because it was Wednesday and they do not open on Wednesdays. Moving along- COCOPURI is like the Sangkaya of Kuching/Sarawak. At least that is what they said. I never tasted Sangkaya but while I can't have it, Cocopuri is definitely a good try! We were initially told the the original, the coconut flavoured ice cream was finished, I was beyond lost- literally, my face was blank contemplating whether we should leave and head on to Lalale or have whatever they have left. I assume he was the manager told us to wait while he checks up the freezer for any good luck and he came back almost shouting "Today is your lucky day!". We got it, the original. Hakeem and I ordered two scoops with caramelized peanuts, candy floss and gula apong drizzle. Dale and Hans only wanted to share since they were so bloated with cheeseburgers and nachos. Also, the price is reasonable! RM4.80 for two scoops is worth it- they were solid, and 50 cents for any topping and drizzle. In fact, it was cheaper than those from the Lalele, I spoke off earlier.

It is 3:02 now so I guess I'll leave my mark here, and may part two of this little adventure be as interesting!

Good night, loves.
